Do you feel too moody, foggy, anxious, depressed, fat, tired, stopped up, bitchy, little sex drive, little concentration, or sluggish?

Do you know it might not be due to a mental disorder?

It can be your hormones!

Testosterone is a hormone produced by testicles and regulated by the hypothalamus and pituitary gland, and plays an important role in the body, responsible for the proper development of male sexual characteristics. It helps to maintain muscle mass and strength, bone mass, a sense of well being, adequate level of red blood cells, sperm, and regulates sex drive (libido).

Low testosterone  (Low T) levels occur naturally and gradually with the decline being about one to two percent per year after the age of 30, known as Andropause, male menopause.  There can be multiple other causes to low testosterone (Low T) such as inflammatory disease, brain injury, concussion, dysfunction of the pituitary gland, injury or infection or loss of testicles, genetic abnormalities, chemotherapy or radiation treatment for cancer, chronic illness, chronic stress, alcoholism, obesity, chronic kidney failure, and cirrhosis of the liver.

Low testosterone levels aka Andropause is real. Studies have shown that the large percentage of men with low T symptoms are not being treated for their andropause.

The most important is that as men age and their testosterone levels decline, they are at a higher risk for cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, and cognitive impairment. Multiple studies reveal that lower testosterone levels can be detrimental and replacement can have beneficial effects on both short-term wellbeing (increase mood, enhanced sexual function, better muscle-mass) as well as long-term health (improves memory, cardiovascular function and bone health).

Studies have shown that reduced testosterone levels (Low T) are linked to premature coronary artery disease, unfavourable effects on CVD risk factors and increased risk of cardiovascular mortality independent of age. Where testosterone replacement therapy was associated with a lower risk of cardiovascular outcomes.

Symptoms of Low T may include:

Fatigue:

Low testosterone can result in a lack of energy. If you find that you’re feeling sleepy from much of the day, even after you have had a good night of rest, literature suggests that there is a high chance that a hormonal imbalance is at fault.

Weight gain, particularly around abdomen

When men do not have enough testosterone, it can inhibit muscle growth. It is known that muscle tissue burns calories at a higher rate than fat tissue. When men have low T, it can result in fat gain, and for the majority of men that gain happens around the belly. Occasionally, the imbalance of testosterone and estrogen can cause men to hold onto more body fat than they would otherwise.

Difficulty concentrating and loss of mental clarity

Testosterone affects many physical processes in the body, and focus, clarity, and memory are no exception. Multiple studies have shown that men who take testosterone tend to experience an increase in memory due to increased blood flow to the brain.  Life challenges caused by low T such as stress and relationship issues can also play a role in the struggle to focus.

Anxiety, depression or irritability

Low testosterone can result in a number of mood changes, hormonal imbalance are often to blame for anxiety, depression and other mood concerns.

Loss of Libido

Low Testosterone can cause a variety of health issues (erectile dysfunction, hair loss) that may inhibit certain desires. While most men experience a decrease in interest and libido as they age, low T causes a steeper drop-off than what is normal for most men.

Loss of muscle mass

Low testosterone can cause loss of muscle mass. This loss of mass can also add to fat gain.

How optimal levels of testosterone are beneficial to men?

By replacing/supplementing testosterone levels with bio-identical testosterone men feel energized, stronger, and less irritable; enjoy more productive sleep and a renewed sense of self; find it easier to concentrate and remember; and experience an increase in libido. Bio-identical testosterone replacement therapy is a supplementation of your body's natural testosterone. Your body does not know the difference between bioidentical testosterone hormone and you own, making them easier to use.
